1. 今までで一番はまった映画・ドラマは?

I love to read as much as I love visual stories. It’s for this reason, perhaps, that I like my movies and dramas to have stunning, even painterly visual composition. I’ve enjoyed over-the-top serial dramas on Netflix recently, such as Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: 1984 (the credit sequence alone is wonderful!) or Shonda Rhimes’ current Bridgerton, as well as much more delicate portraits like Lars von Trier’s Melancholia or Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari.

2. ロサンゼルスのおすすめスポットは?

Los Angeles has so many wonderful places to visit, but, more than anything, it’s the wide range of diverse foods from around the world that makes the city special to me! I guess I like to eat! To walk off all those calories, I think you can’t beat the amazing number of public gardens such as the Huntington, the Descanso Gardens, or the LA Arboretum. Each is worth a half-day visit or longer, if you have some time to spare. Spotting the tiny variations in flowers and leaves is also good training for your movie eyes!

3. 翻訳・通訳の仕事の魅力は?

Interpreting and translating is a very rewarding field at the psychological level . First of all, you are exposed to a wide range of talents and personalities. Each job represents at least one human passion, and I always try to learn as much as I can about the client worldview that lies behind that passion. Especially for introverts, translating and interpreting can be ways to explore the lives and interests of extroverts. But I know many introverts who really shine when it comes to language, words, and expression. It’s a topsy-turvy world!

4. LA留学を検討されている方に一言!

Whether it’s brushing up English skills or studying the finer points of translation, Los Angeles provides you with a wonderful base. Because it’s a dynamic, progressive city with people from all over the world, you’ll learn far more than just English. And, if visual entertainment is your thing, well, there aren’t many better places in the world. It’s the heart of the US entertainment industry. Still, Los Angeles also has a lesser-known, but no less vibrant underside. This quiet, thoughtful, and sensitive dimension to the city makes it home to many independent writers, artists, and filmmakers. In total, Los Angeles is a city that really treasures expression of all kinds. What a great place to learn, to discover, and to engage.
